Many companies and recruiters are using phone interviews as the first step in the hiring process. Here are some tips to help you give the best impression over the phone.
- Do your homework on the company and interviewer
- Make yourself a Cheat Sheet
- Make a comfortable environment and shut out distractions:
- Children
- Pets
- Background noises
- Have a pen and paper ready, along with y our resume and cover letter
- Shower, groom and dress up (or at least a little)
- Looking professional helps you feel professional
- Stand up, or at least sit up straight at a table or desk
- Smile while you speak to convey positivity
- Listen, take notes, pause and speak slowly
- Follow up with a thank you message
REMEMBER: you should treat this the same as in-person interview
