Many companies and recruiters are using phone interviews as the first step in the hiring process. Here are some tips to help you give the best impression over the phone.

  1. Do your homework on the company and interviewer
  • Make yourself a Cheat Sheet
  1. Make a comfortable environment and shut out distractions:
  • Children
  • Pets
  • Background noises
  1. Have a pen and paper ready, along with y our resume and cover letter
  1. Shower, groom and dress up (or at least a little)
  • Looking professional helps you feel professional
  1. Stand up, or at least sit up straight at a table or desk
  1. Smile while you speak to convey positivity
  1. Listen, take notes, pause and speak slowly
  1. Follow up with a thank you message

 

REMEMBER: you should treat this the same as in-person interview
